azureus jumping at light

starlightalley Oct 04, 2004 11:44 AM

I just built my frogs a new enclosure because I was having problems with substrate becoming soggy. I put a false bottom in a ten gallon with filter and aquarium heater and the filter is pumping the water back over a piece of slate. This is temporary while I build a bigger enclosure. They seem to like the running water but the problem is that one of the frogs is jumping at the screen top. I have seen him knock his head 4 or 5 times and I am really worried that he is going to seriously injure himself. I have a large "rock" cave that he is jumping from ...so I figured I would move the light to the front of the screen since there is no way he can jump that high..well he goes over to the waterfall and jumps at the light from there. So here we go playing the move the light game and he follows it wherever it goes. What is going on? I don't understand. This morning he ignored the fruit flies to follow the light around while his buddy was steady eating all the flies. Anyone have any ideas what I should do? Any ideas or explanations as to why he is after the light would be great!

he is just getting used to the tank, sometimes frogs go nuts when put in a new tank, some take it very well. i recently got a pair of inferalanis about 2 weeks ago, for the first week they had little interest in FF's and kept jumping into the screen. they have been the only darts that i have had that act like this, they since have stopped and are eating like there's no tomorrow.
