when i first started getting into satanics, the stuff i read told me they would most likely die if the tail was cut off. it also said the tail would not regenerate, but i have since heard from many people that the tails do, in fact, regenerate.

so what should i do to save him...?
give him a lot of calcium and vitamine...

everything you listed is a good idea. the two things i would be most concerned about is 1... hydration, the tail of every lizard is storage for fat and water. even though the tail is very thin and doesn't consist of much, it holds quite a bit for the size of the lizard. make sure you watch it drink several times a day.
second, i would monitor eating just as you said to make sure the crickets don't go for the open wound when unmonitored.
my experiences come from all male lineatus that have dropped their tails due to dehydration. they seem to deteriorate quicker than others after they have lost their tails but if monitored closely will regrow their tails and be perfectly fine.

as far as the wound goes, try applying some neosporin, but be sure to use the plain kind, nothing with pain killers or anything like that. remember the pain killers in some types of neosporin are made for humans, which are considerably larger than tiny geckos, and im sure you could completely knock out and/or kill you gecko if you do not use just a normal antibacterial neosporin.

better yet, take it to the vet. they should know the best options for treatment and should minimize your chances of losing your gecko.
