Question for jimbo....

loril Oct 04, 2004 12:05 PM

I was on your site and have a question for you. What species is Runako? Is he a Niger or Morroccon?
I'm new to the board and have not yet purchased a uromastyx. I have been doing lots of research. Went to the Tampa show this weekend. There was a lot of uro's there. More mali's than anything. Although I must say Urotopia was there and they have an awesome male ornate!
I really like your male Runako. I've seen two other ones colored like that. One of them said it was a Niger.
Thanks!

Thanks. Runako is a male Nigerian. The pictures really don't do him justice, especially after shed. He has such a deep vibrant red coloration. He actually was supposed to be a female to put with Rocky, but luckily for me there was a goof somewhere. He came from Strictly Reptiles. Jeanne was, and has been great with keeping those in her mailing list, informed of new shipments of uros. I asked for an "exceptional" and that's what I got.

Hi, Loril-

If you're new to uros, and have your heart set on a Niger, be sure to get a captive bred juvenile if you can. Wild caught Nigerians (especially adults) are notoriously hard to acclimate and even experienced folks have lost them. Malis are much hardier for someone new to uros, but if you really, really want a Niger, captive bred is the way to go.

Uros are the best!

Thanks for the input el toro. Yes, I'm pretty sure that I want a Nigerian. If there's any way, I will try to get a captive bred. If not I figure my best bet to be a young well acclimated one.
Thanks again.
