Blue in Cresteds

Dave A. Oct 04, 2004 02:47 PM

Ive seen one picture I believe of what someone called a blue crested, not the one from the reptiles magazine.

Im curious as to whether anyone else has pictures of their crested displaying any blue coloration. The reason I ask is that i have about a nine month old female now who is starting to display some blue coloration. I noticed it just last night and might have just been a one time thing, but maybe not. I can hope right?

Shes a result of orange flame male x a greenish tiger female. She started out as a normal patternless buckskin, at about 6 or 7 months her color changed to a deep red. Just last night I noticed that her dorsal area, the area along her spine, between her "crests" is darkening, and in a few spots its a baby blue color. It'll be an interesting look should the color make more of an appearance.

Anyways, I'm curious to see other cresteds displaying some blue coloration. And before anyone asks, I unfortunately do not have or have access to a digital cam right now. Sorry.

the only blue i ever saw was a fake, a lot of times when you take a picture of a crested gecko just before shed the picture will show a blueish tint.

i believe they even talk about it in the Vosjoli Rhacodactylus book.

As far as I know there aren't any blue cresteds.

You are correct... there is no blue cresteds for the simple fact it is impossible for the pigments to make blue in cresteds. I read it all broken down once about 2 years ago and couldnt begin to remember to explain it even if it was yesterday. Somethign to do with melanine and xy (NOT chromosomes!!! lol) something cant produce blue coloration.
