getting a crestie!! lights question

aimee_s Oct 04, 2004 07:40 PM

hi everyone,

i'm getting a crestie! so far, i don't have any questions EXCEPT... how do you situate your lights? i've seen pictures of cresties hanging upside down from the screen - so do you still keep the lamp directly on the sceen? coz i'm thinking it'll get hot and the crestie might burn his poor lil toes i was thinking of the clamps on the lights, but i have no where to clamp it to... it's a perfect aluminum square and the door is on the front-side panel. i just dont want it to get burned :x

Just to let you know, they dont need a heat light unless your house temo gets below 73 at day and 65 at night. And if so then I would recommend a heat light abouve the screen, And it should be low wattage generally. It depends on your house temp.

since it's getting colder here in san francisco, my room temp gets to about 65F during the day and 50F at night. so i bought a dome light with 1 day light bulb for heat and 1 night light bulb for heat... i woke up today, pretty much frozen under a thick blanket - but once it gets a little colder, we'll up the heater in my house so i won't have to use a bulb at night. since the new cage i'm getting is pretty tall, i got the 40W and 50W light bulbs

is that too much? i guess i'll test it later tonight and tomorrow afternoon - but i think it should be ok. it's a small bulb but the dome is big (it's the only one with the ON/OFF switch ) thanks!

Use a typical dome light ,with a 20 watt red bulb on top of the screen .I can put my hand right on any dome and not get burned. I do put a ''basking branch''right under the screen by the light as it does warm the cage up a few degrees and some seem to enjoy the boost for 15-20 minutes at a time.

shucks, i got the 40W and the 50W... do you think that's too high? i was also going to do the "basking branch," but at the same time, i don't want him hanging upside down and falling if his toes touch the rim of the dome light (assuming that it'll be hot)
