Turtle to stay...?

Paullywog Oct 04, 2004 07:48 PM

HI! I got a baby red eared slider last summer to put in my pond. It is 100 gallons with a lot of plants, small fish, tadpoles, and trapdoor snails. The little guy left after a few days. How do i get a turtle to stay? Should i fence in the pond, at least for a while, or would they rather just live in my room in a 50 gallon preformed pond thing in the corner? I really was dissapointed to see the little guy leave. Any tips or thoughts on which "enclosure" would be nice. Thanks!

Yes the only way to keep a turtle in a pond outside it so fence it in. You also should put something over top to keep birds and ratcoons from eating the turtle.
I also think the turtle would be happy in a 50 gal tank inside until he outgrows it and then you should get a bigger tank or put him back in the pond. You also have to remember to get a light to simulate the sun for him and a basking area and basking light for him to bask with. You also have to have a good filter to keep the water clean.
Hope this helps.
