Question about pesticides and keeping feeder roaches...

Mothi Jun 27, 2003 03:58 PM

I was keeping my roach cage in my living room but we found fleas so I had to bug spray the living room area. I put the roach's cage in my spare bedroom with the door closed before the whole spraying cause it is supposed to kill roaches too but I don't want the roaches dead. Just the fleas dead. How long should I keep the roaches away? I want them back in my living room as soon as I can without killing them. If the spraying I did does not kill all the fleas, I am gonna have to bomb the entire downstairs area plus the main bedroom. How long should the roaches stay away after that is done? This is going to be a pain since I also need to spray the yard, treat the dogs, check the cats, and remove the birds and reptiles. Can rats get fleas too? Arg...

The best thing would be to look-up the active ingredient in the pesticide & see what the breakdown rate is-- over time. You could probably determine this by doing a search on Google.com or another search engine.

Since it is a bug-bomb, make sure that the roaches & other pets are clear of any volatile aerosol vapors, so you should be careful with circulation of the air (into the room with the animals). Invertebrates are highly susceptible to pesticides in the environment.

Yeah rats can get fleas.. how do you think the Bubonic Plague spread? It wasn't from the rats themselves but the fleas they were carrying that spread the disease... All mammals can get fleas....reptiles, fortunately, can't.. We sot spray for wild roaches here.. (City living sucks like that) So I have to move my mealworm and superworm colonies downstairs into the basement after the spraying....I usually keep them away for like.. 3 weeks.. sometimes a little more just to be sure..
