Dark Little Girl

muffin_princess Oct 04, 2004 08:30 PM

I was wondering if anyone could offer some words of wisdom or advice. My baby girl veiled chameleon (2-3 months old) just finished shedding, the day before she did, she was very dark. But she shed very large chunks and since then she has been acting very weird. She is very dark (spots & stripes) and she crawls to the bottom of the tank and licks it but when I she is sprayed she crawls away and turns a lighter shade of green. She is not too cold or not to hot. This has just been in the past two days. Is this common? She looks better now, at the end of the day but I just was wondering has anyone else had this happen.

Thanks!

If she was dark colours that means she was stressed by something. So does staying at the bottom of the cage. There may have been something in the room that bothered her.

You said she crawls to the bottom of the "TANK"? for 2-3 month old that should be ok...but I do hope you are planning on upgrading her cage in a month or two to an all screen cage.

She is probably stressed at something causing her to turn dark...possibly she's already seeing her reflection in the glass and stressing herself. you need to figure out the stress factor and elimate it ASAP.

If you would list her entire setup it would be more helpful:

screen cage/tank
temps (basking and rest of cage
lights - UVB, length, type
food
supplements
water - misting is not sufficient need dripper or other means
photo if possible

When you say she goes down a "licks" what is it she is licking? Is it water? The reason she doesn't respond well to the misting could be b/c it is cold and/or too harsh. Put hot water in your mister (the air will cool it to "warm" when it comes out so you won't burn her) and mist gently and from above so the mist lands on her and doesn't frighten her
