My female red headed agama may be pregnant

buddy1900 Oct 04, 2004 10:41 PM

1st of all, to rhino5. I saw your post and yea, agama agama, definately a red headed agama. Now about mine. If you remember I had bought 2 females and put them in with my young male. He took to 1 of them and wants nothing to do with the other. The one he spends his "cave time" with is getting very big around the belly. Plus, HER head has been turning orange! Something that does not happen with the other female. So I'm watching to see if I can see eggs in her belly then I will change her environment.

By the way, you may remember that I was asking if my male was a real red headed agama? This was because he occasionally would turn his head orange but his body never turned blue. Well, we live in Florida and the 1st hurricane knocked our power out so we had to put the lizards outside on the back porch. After 30 minutes in the humidity he had a bright orange head, and a dark blue body. Since then he's done it inside the house in his tank. I think he shows off for the girls. Plus it may have been an age thing. I think he's only about 1 year old. But it's official, he's a real one!

hahahaha ! Thats some good news, hope all goes well and we can get to see some baby redheads soon

As far as the male being a true redhead, he always looked like one from the begining, They are not always in their bright blue color.

Funny you mention he has been hanging with the female and she may be gravid.....

That probably has alot to do with his showing his blue and reddish/ orange head , as they get their vibrant colors during breeding seasons.

I wish ya the best, now they have to do the rest

Yea, I was a little surprised. I thought, give him 2 females and let him live it up. But he may be monogamous.
