Are really Lineatus member of the Fimbriatus group, in a book i have. (Leaf-tailed Geckos: The Genus uroplatus) Lineatus are listed in their own group, the Lineatus group.
Which group do you think the U.pietschmanni belong to, the Fimbriatus group???

I would say that uroplatus pietschmanni belongs to the allaudi group. They look very simliar to allaudi.

never heard of allaudi... how new is that, and any pics?

Mad_1234 Oct 06, 2004 07:25 PM

Alllaudi has been known for a long time I don't know its actual description date but its not a new species. The reason you don't hear about it that often is it is one of those ultra-rare reptile species. According to Bill Love only about 12 specimans have been found but I don't if that is accurate because the C.I.T.E.S reports say that close to 25 are exported each year!!! I think that pietschmanni may be a sub-species of allaudi or the other way around, you can definatly see the resemblance.

In my oppinion Pietschmanni is NO WAY a part of the Alluaudi-group. I keep U: Guentheri and U. Pietschmanni, and Alluaudi are very close to U. Guentheri. The only difference is the number of supralabial scales and the structure of the skin.
U. Pietschmanni is a totally different gecko. Round body versus thin, extremely spiny skin versus smooth - and also others arguments could be mentioned.
In my opinion both Lineatus and Pietschmanni are a group of their own...untill we find out about subspecies....(?)

Kristian

It was just an idea. As you can see from the picture I posted above of alluadi it looks very much like pietschmanni. I have also seen some guenthri pictures that look kind of like pietschmanni. But you can't deny the resemblance of alluadi and pietschmanni at least from the picture. Here's is a picture of a guenthri that I thought looked like a pietschmanni.
