Of my two monitors one has never had a problem with me taking her ( just a hypothetical him and her, we refer to the larger one as her, we don't know the actual sexes yet ) out of her enclosure, so I've handled her frequently.
The other has always seemed to hate human presence and the slightest movement has always scared him away.
After hurricane Ivan hit we had to live at my dad's house for two and a half weeks and they stayed in his extra tub with 2 peices of cardboard to hide in and a dish of water and half the tub always had a mm or 2 of water in it.
The whole time, rather than do what I wanted to do I've tried to give Nagefen ( the anti-human one =P ) his privacy, I even only took Vox out when he wasn't out so I wouldn't interrupt his basking.
We finally have a place again and they're back in their original enclosure.
Well, over the last few days "he" has been extremely socialable and is a beautiful animal to look at ( since before all I could see is a tongue sticking out of his burrow or shelter ).
It was kind of strange how he just clicked into this new personality, but he seems to be fine ( and finally willing to eat in front of me instead of snatch his food and drag it into his den ).
So they survived the storm ( Thanks for the advice on letting them cool down Frank. It was a little scary at first because I've never seen Vox so sluggish, but she's back to the way she was before, if not eating a bit more eagerly ).

p.s. would post pictures of them, but my only internet access / computer is at work now
