HELP!!!!!

crtoon83 Oct 05, 2004 03:47 PM

My yearling licorice stick black rat got out. i closed her tank up the other day and i didnt realize that the wire for the thermostat was holding the lid open a little bit...just enough for her to escape. I'm on the second story of the house with a ledge right next to the tank with a 18 foot drop. no way she could survive that. i'm frantically searching right now...i know to look up...but any added advice would be seriously appreciated. and my g'ma lives downstairs and she cant know or she would move out..she is deathly afraid of snakes. PLEASE!!!! Thanks!
-Chris

Start in the area where the cage is and fan out from there. Leave no stone (or bit of clothing lying on the floor) unturned... and make sure that you don't step on potential hiding spots. Hopefully you will have the snake back in its cage before you even read this. Best of luck. Duffy

ugh i wish that was the case....last time i had her out ws day b4 yesterday, at night. i havent handled her because at that time she ws starting to go into shed..she lives in the hide all the time anyway so i didnt even notice her not there ya kno? being on the second story, i'd imagine the chances of her getting downstairs are extremly slim, wouldnt you think so?

Hey Chris, the good news she's going into shed and probably won't feel like moving around much right now. Hopefully she's holed up somewhere and not moving at night. Also, snakes will generally find a wall closest to where they escaped and move along it until they find a suitable hiding space so start directly behind the cage and check under everything she could've gotten into, and once you've checked everything she could have gotten into, check them all again as well as anything you DON'T think she could've gotten into. Good luck!

congrats on finding him
Seems like he just about out smarted you...lol
Man, I hope your room looked like because of your efforts to find the snake and doesn't always look like that.
You are lucky. I have had four hatchlings escape over the last three years...never found one of them.
oops I take that back...five escaped, my dogs found one in the downstairs hallway. All but one of my snakes are kept upstairs.

Glad you found him! I managed to find both my escapees (2 in the past 3 years) the same day they came up missing. Would have been a heartbreaker to lose a little licorice stick. Duffy
