hibernation

Hi I was just wondering if you can hibernate box turles in standing trash cans in a shed. I was thinking about placing a couple feet of sand, leaves and mulch in there and placing the turtle in there. Also as another idea has anyone tried hibernating boxies in cellar wells. I was going to using one of those clear cellar well guards and place the turtle in side the well. And my last question is how many ounces should a 4-5-6 inch male or female box weigh before hibernation. My female is about 5-6 inches and weighs one pound. My male is about 14 oucnces and is slightly smaller. thanks

Check out the preceding thread and links provided for info on hibernation.
Ideally you should weigh your turtles on a regular basis to determine a healthy weight: each turtle will be a little different. There isn't really a standard weight. If you scroll down, there's a recent thread covering that subject, too. Females do tend to weigh a little more than males of comparable size.
