I try not to use the subspecies names any more. I perfer to refer to them by species then locality. If you used color and shape as a basis for subspecies, then nearly every population of C. collaris could have a subspecies name. They come in many shapes and sizes.
I have heard much on this forum about subspecies, but I always wondered how it could be so. (I've even seen white "Texas" Collared Lizards at SouthCalReptiles website.) I like your idea.
