1 year old feeding question?

rich-k Oct 05, 2004 05:15 PM

Well, I have a 15 month old male burm that is 8'4" and 17 lbs. First off does that sound like he's on track and secondly what kind of feeding schedual should I have him on? He gets 2-3 jumbo(depending on how jumbo) rats every 7 days. I think this may be a little too often for him. Only thing is he prowls the cage unmistakably when he's hungry(every 6 days) and is nearly unhandleable.

I'm thinking it is just a matter being the boss and waiting him out longer for food. I think every 14 days would be a little better, what do you guys think?

Sounds like the exact size my burm was when I got him. I fed mine right around what you're talking about except every other week. Now that he's bigger I try to give him a 4lb rabbit but I still, and have always, only fed him every other week.

I too would go with the every other week feedings, but at 8'+ I myself would feed him rabbits.

For the most part I feed young burms every 7 days, but once they hit about 5-6' I start every other week and start them on small rabbits.

Good luck!

Thanks guys.
I have offered him rabbits before. He has taken 1 lb. bunnies without a problem. Only thing is the last 1 I got him was round abouts 4 lbs. and he struggled with it for about 45 minutes til he gave up. I was then left to toss a big ass, dead,($12 mind you) rabbit in the trash. That kinda turned me off giving him another bunny for at least another month I'd say. I can get my hands on some damn big rats though so its working out ok for now. Thanks again though, I was gonna feed him today but I think I'll wait a few more days.
