Gulf Salt Marsh Watersnakes

These are without a doubt my favorite snakes. They were born in 2002 from a WC female from Franklin County, FL. I've got them slamming unscented rat fuzzies. I'm hoping the females will be big enough to breed in 2005 as I've got a couple of WC males waiting for them. Their sibling male has been trying lately!!

Black phase male. I've got a female that is very similar looking but a little brighter.

Black phase littermate with fasciata influence. This is the most spastic snake I've ever owned. He's not the voracious mouse feeder that his siblings are, thus he's a bit thinner.

Looks like half garter snake, half diamondback rattlesnake! Imagine, a snake that injects venom into fish and musks you when you hold it. And then bites you since you weren't supposed to be holding it. No antivenom for garter snake-rattlesnake hybrids so you die smelling like musky dead fish.

Beautiful Snakes! I love clarkii.

I went down to southern Florida this spring and mucked around in the mangroves but couldn't find any. They're right at the top of my list (well, maybe under W. Foxes) of snakes to bring up on my next order down South. Canadian herptoculture's frustrating; I need to get together atleast $1000 US in snakes before it's worth getting anything in to the country, and of course I've no hope of finding clarkii for sale here.

How many pure Gulfs and Mangroves are you planning to produce this year? Do you keep any Broad-Banded Waters? Do you know of anyone with legal Atlantic Salt Marshes?

Thank You

>>Beautiful Snakes! I love clarkii.

Thanks! They're my favorite snakes by far.

>>Canadian herptoculture's frustrating; I need to get together atleast $1000 US in snakes before it's worth getting anything in to the country, and of course I've no hope of finding clarkii for sale here.

You should talk to Michael56. He has both Gulfs and Mangroves that he bought from me and they should be breedable before too long.

>>How many pure Gulfs and Mangroves are you planning to produce this year?

I didn't produce any pure clarkii this year as I don't have any breeding adults at the moment. I will probably have babies of both ssp. next year.

>>Do you keep any Broad-Banded Waters?

No, but you can beleive that I want to. I'm holding out for really nice specimens.

>>Do you know of anyone with legal Atlantic Salt Marshes?

There is no such thing as a legal taeniata. I don't think there are any in captivity and they are protected both federally and by the state of FL so collection is out of the question.
