Outdoor Enclosures

mikeeb Oct 05, 2004 08:45 PM

Iam thinking about setting up an outdoor enclosure. I want lizards that can tolerate cold winters, because i live in pa. What are some species that could live outdoors year round and tolerate cold temps? Thanks

Fence Lizard, Northern Coal Skink, Five Lined Skinks.. are native to Pennsylvania.. I can imagine they'd undergo Brumation in that cold though, I'd reccomend going herping next spring and try to find some things,
Five Lined and coal skinks are always welcome, if you caught enough and established them you could try captive breeding and spreading them.. As I recall everyone wants something exotic and "cool" and we end up neglecting our own back yards and seeing the native herps..with the way things are going they're going to be absent in Cultivation completely and may very well become rare in the wild and few will see them.. It's always a good idea to have them.. and who knows.. The small skinks may turn out to have a good personality..

good luck in any case
