Opinions needed from brooksi afficianados

bluerosy Oct 05, 2004 09:24 PM

My het Peanut Butter brooks males look like they will turn out high white. Do any of you think these might turn out like Brandon Osbornes high whites?

They are kinda different looking and I just wanted some opinions because I have extra males and I am not sure if these will turn out as nice normal brooksi in themselves?

Note the eye color. It has no reddish tint.

It looks like they will be pretty nice. Chances are they will be a creamy color. I think the difference between a good looking brooks and a great looking brooks is how crisp and clean the edges are around each scale. I like Brandons white brooks because the black edges are not washed out completly. I would hold on to a couple of those and see how they turn out. Do you think that the pb gene could possibly be changing the color of the hets a little? Are all of the hets that color?

"Are all of the hets that color?"

The Peanut Butter brooksi are throwing all color ranges this year. The het males seem to be like the one in the pic and the females have the reddish color so they look more normal. This is a female Peanut Butter below. Since this pic was taken she has turned even more red. A keeper.

God knows what will happen what the first Peanut Butter to Peanut Butter breeding will produce. Sometimes breeding recessive to recessive brings out something new.

Nice looking snakes. I don't know what they'll look like but if you send me a pair, I'll watch 'em close for ya!
On the eye color, I dunno that either. You're high white and your eyes have red in them
Seriously, do you think it is time for us in the hobby to quit referring to snakes as "brooksi"? I still do it from habit, but could change.

I dont see the problem with it Mark. Its only a common name and as long as they are referred to as Floridana its fine. If you dont use Brooks then how would you differentiate them from say Okeechobee Kings ? Call them high yellows ? Then youve simply substituted one name for another.

a brooksi. A brooksi is a light-phase FL King from southern Dade and Monroe counties. A brooksi is a representation of what was formerly considered to be the subspecies "brooksi".

Thats ok in my book. Mark said we should stop calling them Brooksi but in conversation or for marketing purposes what the hell should you call them to differentiate them from regular dark Floridana ? Yellow Phase ? To me Brooksi is another way of saying "hey! Im a yellow phase" lol so hence I have no problem with the word Brooksi. If you want to argue its validity thats something different but Im speaking strictly from a hobbyist stand point.

people call normal butt ugly florida kings "brooksi". I've seen it enough times at reptile shows, and in the classifieds, anyway.

...please re read my post. I posted as a question:
"Seriously, do you think it is time for us in the hobby to quit referring to snakes as "brooksi"? I still do it from habit, but could change."
I know it may have sounded sounded like I was suggesting it, but it WAS A QUESTION afterall.

... simply was asking whether others thought we hobbyists should begin to drop the Brooksi moniker. I use both quite a lot and I know it confuses people, including me.
Sheesh, where's your badge, officer?:}

I agree that we should stop calling them brooksi but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Like Keith said I think its just a way for us to tell the floridana apart. Kinda like all Okeetee corns today are just nice corns and not neccesarily from that area.

i got a trio of Brandon's high whites two years ago. Yours don't look like his hatchlings, but it certainly looks like it will be a very very nice adult.
