Temperatures are everything! Success story...

stevodod Oct 05, 2004 11:01 PM

Hey,

Took everyone's advice and moved the rats/mice inside the a/c of my classroom instead of my garage. Result? In one week, three litters of mice, 2 litters of rats, and NOT ONE eaten baby!

Man, do temps make a difference! They won't hardly breed in temps over 80, but 68-73....woah! Look out!

Any cooler, however, and I believe the females would spend too much energy in keeping warm.

Thanks for all your help!

Steve

I had my feeders in the garage during the winter and they would put the babies on the glass bottom and they all would be frozen in the morning, i even found mom ontop of them that way, live and learn i guess, thought they would use the fluffy stuff i provided, but they just cleared the bottom. Artifical vanilla in the water helps with the smell as well.

Why and how much of a difference?

An old painters trick is to add small amount of vanilla to a gallon of paint. It takes away over half the odor. Same with rodents. No more amonia smell!!

Wow, TY I'll have to run out to the store tonight, 100 rats stewing in the spare bedroom is not all that pleasing to my wife......

a few drops to the water bottle enough?

Yep i use 4 per small bottle for mice and 8 for those big rat ones, i've noticed a difference, if it's humid then you might get air drifts once inawhile. But its helped me alot., Mine are next to the couch and could smell them and now i can't, if you stick you head in the tank you will though lol
