Wounded King-Injury photos *warning*

My poor girl is badly scarred. Im worried about treating the wounds because the directions on neosporin say not to use on deep cuts. Do these wounds look like they will heal?

I would do something to clean that up. Even if its neosporin.

What happened to the snake?

She escaped. She was found this way after missing for 6 weeks. She was under the porch which may have scratched her (she was stuck under there) and we have 3 cats, I think it was a cat. She is also missing scales all over her body, but I think those will heal. Im worried about these cuts. Ive been soaking her in water to keep them clean but I dont know how bad these cuts really are. I had another post but without pics I dont know how good the advice was. Have you ever treated cuts like this w/ neosporin? I dont want it to make her sick because the directions warned against deep cuts.

Metalpest,
I've used Neosporin on wounds that were deeper than those suffered by your cal king. It worked wonders. I would'nt soak the snake too often. Keep it on newspaper or paper towels. It will go into shed frequently. It will heal up but probably have some scars.
Good luck,
Paul

I would not allow it to soak in a water bowl that might allow bacteria to enter easier. Try some betadine to clean it. Put a small bowl of water for drinking.Watch for signs of infection.
Don't handle any more than necessary.

You would be surprised at how resilient these animals can be. You might want to make sure the temps are a little warmer than usual to help her metabolism and to help her stave off infection. Neosporin will be ok and keep her on newspaper/paper towels to help keep bedding from infecting/irritating her wounds. It will take a while for it to heal, and will more than likely leave scars.

Dont soak her too often, just make sure she has a water bowl large enough to soak in if she wants to.

Once the wounds scab over, you can continue to apply a thin coat of neosporin to help in reducing the scarring.

Good luck with your snake.

Thanks to everyone that has provided me with advice. Ill be updating her progress.

Ive been keeping her on newspaper and warmer than usual. Today I gave her some neosporin and I wont soak her anymore. I think it was good the first time because she seemed a little dehydrated and she drank a lot while soaking. It looks like there may be sand stuck to the wounds but I cant tell if it is bone or not. It didnt seem to want to come off. When I applied neo today, she didnt squirm or anything. I dont think there is a lot of pain so maybe she was injured a while back and already started to heal before we found her. She moves around good but retreats to her hide and doesnt come out. I saw her out once to drink. Ill try feeding her pinks next week.

Thanks again everyone!

Nick
