Whoa (warning, poop question)

lisa_cristin Oct 06, 2004 04:36 AM

My blizzard (about 6 months old) just pooped the bigest leopard gecko poop I have ever seen. It would be about the size of his head if it was all together. It looks very normal, it's just massive. Should I be worried?

He did it in the strangest place as well, right on top of the colum thing in his tank pictured below. I would imagine it must have been a little uncomfortable. Grrr, he refuses to go where I want him to go.

It doesn't strike me as being a health issue.

Maybe he held his poo in for awhile.

I know my bearded does that sometimes. I can be downstairs and know he did #2 because I can smell it (it is the worst smell imaginable, his poo didn't use to stink and now it makes me want to vomit lol).

It just seems normal for poo size to vary for any animal.

My blizzard and blizzard het have done the same thing but they're also a couple of my biggest eaters. From my experience, the gigantic poop is an accumulation of several meals because they go for a couple of days without pooping.

What I do is slow down their feeding schedule so I can make sure they pooped the previous night's meal before I feed them again. I also try to feed them less, even if it means they're still hungry.

Here's a pic of the gigantic poop my blizzard had. You can't really see it in the pic, but it's got two white urates. One is fresh and the other one looks soggy and old. The fact that they hold their urates in for so long is what bothers me about constipation.

Wow Xelda that's huge.

Lisa my male gives me huge stools too, but thats because he refuses to eat everyday instead he eats and poops every other day.
My female was constipated but the bath thing totally fixed it.

What size prey items are you feeding them? Try even smaller, as for potty training them have you tried putting the stool on a paper towel then placing the towel where you want them to go?
good luck

My gecko poops every day, he is very regular. Is that normal/OK?, I wonder because none of the ones mentioned poops daily.
Maybe there is too much fiber in his fod dust.

I'd say that's very normal, especially if you feed him daily. I also found up untill my leos reached 3-4 months they pooped almost everyday.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it's runny or looks very abnormal.

I have just been feeding them normal sized mealworms, no large crickets or supers.

As for pooping in one spot I've tried everything. He seems to like pooping on high things. I tried the paper towel thing for months. Now everytime he poops I move it into a small sandbox, take out what he pooped on, and move the box to the area he pooped in. Still I am having no luck.

My girls are little better trained, but I'm still working on them. They don't like going in the same spot as the other so I am tring to change that.

I am just not having any luck with poop. Even my dogs have been pooping in the house lately. I think it's due to upset stomachs from a food change

Try putting some of his old poop in the spot where you want him to poop.

That is one huge poop, poor little guy that must have been a little painful. The one from my blizzard looks to be about 2/3 that size with only one normal looking urate.

He had been holding it in for a while, almost a week I'd say. I have also been a little lazy lately, I usually feed them all they can eat every 2-3 days. The three of them usually go through about 40-50 mealworms every feeding. I'm thinking maybe I should be a little more consistant feeding the same amount everyday, probably 8-10 mealworms each.
