Nixon and Kennedy speak...

rearfang Oct 06, 2004 06:50 AM

Last night's debate struck me as in someways being like that famous confrontation of over 40 years ago.

On one side the Repulican-Chenney who was remarkably reminicent in his (hunched) posture and manner to ol' tricky Dick (don't get me wrong I liked Nixon) but I kept waitng for him to say "I not a crook..."

Edwards looked a lot like an idealist Kennedy...

My take on this was that Chenney was better prepared and I think edged by Edwards in this. But Edwards caught Chenney in a couple of places and won the likeability contest.

I think Chenney won this debate on a sounding informed level, but like Nixon...lost it on looks.

I guess that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I think Chaney won both in content and in looks. And by looks, I mean that he looks more believable, respectable, honest, trustworthy, etc. ---not that he is more handsome/has better hair.

Everytime I see a Kennedy look alike, I see a used car salesman.

Considering his previous posts, Poor Fred Albury is going to really be upset at how wrong he was once again! (about the outcome of this debate)

On a side note, I heard an interesting debate the other day. Why do the democrats constantly try to tie Halliburton to this administration? When Clinton bombed Bosnia, Halliburton was called in to help them rebuild. (and Chaney was the CEO of Halliburton--no link mentioned in the liberal media) But now, after Chaney has left Halliburton, there is all of the sudden a link between Halliburton and this administration?--Very strange. Using their same twisted logic, did Clinton bomb Bosnia to help his friends at Halliburton profit?--I didn't think so then, and I don't think so now.

Now see if I was casting a movie....Edwards would be the young idealistic town preacher, more sunshine than substance.

Chenney would be a mob boss. Add a Fedora (that's a gangster hat-for the younger crowd) and a cigar and you're there.

Kerry would be the farmer (American gothic?)

Bush would be the comic sidekick...

Which means the country still needs a hero.
