I was thinking of listing my 17" alligator snapper on the classified section.
Anyone have any experience shipping a large turtle ?
Its about 35 pounds

I would suggest finding the largest insulated box you can from a tropical fish dealer, put him in it, surround him with newspaper for padding and ship it same day through Delta Dash so he won't get dehydrated.

What I was wondering...
Do they put things in the cargo holds of planes.
Like will it freeze or anything?

I just got a baby snake in the mail for my daughter.
Came fed-ex. It came through fine.

Any other help you can give me will help.
Any ideas at all.

I want to make sure I can ship...then list it for sale. I have to get rid of some stuff.
I have things I've rescued and stuff, and just have no more room.
If I have a good container with holes, can I just ship fed-ex?

You can ship large things fed ex, but it will be just as expensive as shipping them air cargo. For example, I just recieved a 10 lb snake the other day and it cost $60 to ship Fed Ex. The problem with shipping large turtles overnight is that they go without water for so long. Small turtles can be shipped with moist paper towels or moss or something, the larger ones are harder to do that with. It will also make the box heavier.

Delta Dash is the only legal way to ship animals because of climate controlled cargo cabins. They are the same places where dogs and cats are stored when they are flown somewhere. It's same day shipping, so you ship in the morning and it is flown to its destination later that day and it must be picked up at the airport. I took many many trips to the Delta cargo claim at O'Hare when I lived in Chicago. Here is their link on shipping animals including reptiles.
