Normally patterned silver suboc question

dustyrhoads Oct 06, 2004 11:43 AM

Does anyone know anyone besides Gregg's Reptile Basement that breeds normally patterned axanthic subocularis? I asked him, but he did not tell me who he got them from. His will not be available until '06.
Don Soderberg and Dave Barker did not even know when I asked them. Apparently there are very few breeders of this rare but naturally occuring morph.
Don said that of the 200-300 subocs that he has caught, only two or three were normal silvers.
Somebody has got to have some. Any help would be profusely appreciated.
Thanks,
Dusty

I've never even heard of normally patterned axanthics... I didn't even think that there were any.

Then again, I also wasn't aware that silvers could be at all easily found in the wild, either.

Can you ask Gregg if he'd come here and post a photo or two of his normal-patterned silvers? I'd love to see them.

I have 1 wild caught normal pattern silver female from Black Gap that Ric Blair and I collected. She produced 8 eggs from a breeding with a normal male, also from Black Gap.
I also have 1 wild caught normal pattern silver male from the Christmas Mtns. I had thought it was a female and was keeping it with a pair of normals from the Christmas Mtns. but found out it wasn't when I saw it copulating with the normal female. The normal female laid 6 eggs but I don't know who the father is.
Neither of these snakes has ever produced before and this is my first time breeding subocs. I have the eggs at 83 degrees, is that a good temperature for subocs?
The picture is an old pic I took of the silver Black Gap and a normal Christmas Mtns. Most people who have seen it (the pic) say it just looks like a light normal. It must be the pic because believe me I have seen probably close to 150 subocs in 9 years of hunting Graybands in TX and it is definitly not a light normal. In person there is no doubt it is a silver. Whether it proves genetic remains to be seen. Same goes for the silver Christmas, which is not pictured, except it is more a grayish silver whereas the Black Gap is a lighter silver.
