White's and Cuban Cohabitating...

psideways Oct 06, 2004 04:02 PM

I have noticed that the amphibian community is very split when it comes to the topic of community tanks. I purchased a juvenile cuban tree frog from a pet store and I talked to the guy for a while and he said he had a community tank at home and was successfully keeping a cuban with two white's. I placed my juvenile cuban in with my juvenile white's and they seem to be doing great...they are about the same size and spend much of the day sitting on the glass pressed up together. The other day someone told me that the secretions from the cuban's skin are poisonous? is this true? Any help please. I also take them out every few days and feed them separately to make sure they are both getting enough food.

I copied this from allaboutfrogs.org. Hope this helps.

"Miscellaneous Facts:
These frogs are notorius for cannibalism...if there are other species of frogs in the tank, or even specimens of the same species, Cuban Tree Frogs have been known to feast on their neighbors! Remember, a frog doesn't need to be bigger to eat another frog, just hungry!
Also, you should always wash your hands after handling any frog or toad, but especially cuban TFs. Some people can have really strong reactions to skin secretions (especially if you rub your eye after handling the frogs!!"

Here is the exact site:

Once again I don't take any credit for this information. But I do hope it helps answer your question. Good luck!
