Hi Rope,

Thanks for the info. I saw your egg photos and they did look quite white, albeit a bit on the thin/dented side. I don't think infertile eggs have to be yellow, though. Regardless, I don't know of many people that get a good clutch first go.

How were the nesting areas set up?

I've just started warming up my adult lacies (yes, I'm one of those people that winters them), so I imagine I'll be seeing some mating activity soon. They've both come out of winter in excellent condition - haven't eaten since May, yet look the same as when they went down - so the female will have no problem cycling.

well my nesting sites suck...that and no real basking area....this is what happened...the two crocs were all over each other...the female got real fat..i had them in a cage that had a divider with a hole that could be closed up...so as soon as the male went over to the other side i closed up the opening...the basking spot was on the other side of the cage(the males side now)so the female had her choice of temps that ranged from 70 to 92....i know thats wrong but thats that...anyway everything was just how you said and she layed 7 eggs ...........some experts say that some of the eggs were fertile when layed but died right after that...i still have them just in case...they say either i had a humidity problem or there was a bacteria infection.(could be caused by no basking spot).or both...well things still aren't great...my female passed an egg with no shell today...that says to me she's egg bound or was egg bound...and she was able to dissolve the calcium and pass the egg...i think there may be more but maybe not...she looks fine but isn't eating yet...soooooo...i think the basking spot was needed......thanks for everything Dave...............billy

That last one sounds like a slug to me. She wouldn't be able to digest the shell once they are in the oviduct - in fact they usually can't even digest their own egg shells in their gut (unlike bird eggs, which disappear entirely).

If she isn't eating yet, she's probably not finished and may be egg bound.

I've had very little experience with this, but the first sign I have that my female has laid has always been her appetite. She's ravenous. From speaking to others, this is usually the case.

Does she have a basking light, now? Rope, rope, rope... you don't need me to tell you that you shouldn't have introduced the pair if they weren't set up for all contingencies! Get that light set up!
