BlueKing Oct 06, 2004 08:38 PM

Sorry for the delay, but I've been working some crazy hours lately!!! But finally replaced the broke camera. I am still trying to figure this new camera out. By this weekend I should have some better pics
Female corn 42" long, found on 22 Sept 04 in NC crossing the road during evening hours (Found two other adults about a half mile apart on same road within 30 minutes - a red one and a gray/red one)

The black borders on this animal are strong, like an okeetee. Found in the Cape Fear river basin away from most homes.

Could you maybe get a picture on a white background so the balck doesn't overwhelm the coloration? I'd really like to see that animal a little better.

Thanks!

Did you keep her or just take the photos and let her on her way? If you still have her, Is she yellow blotches on a gray background? In the photos it's hard to tell, looks kind of like copper colored blotches. My Mysty is brown blotches on a gray background with orange spots on her sides. I normally think of the gray backgrounds as being a "Miami" thing, interesting that the North Carolina Corns have the Gray backgrounds too. I think the gray backgrounds are very nice looking personally, course I'm a tad partial... If you still have her, could you get some photos in a different light so we could see her yellow coloring better?

I still have her, as a matter of fact, she just ate three F/t mice! I will take some more pics of her on Saturday (since she just ate). I also have two others that I found on the same road during the same drive within a one mile stretch (three in thirty minutes!). I will post the pics of all three on Saturday. One is gray and red and the other is almost all red - lots of orange and red blotches.

That's neat. I can't even imagine being able to just go get corn snakes like that. The largest snakes we have around my house are Eastern Milks which a lot of people mistake for Corns who don't know what an Eastern Milk is. I've never seen a wild adult Eastern Milk. Only ever found one baby about 10 years ago. That was the only wild Eastern Milk I've ever found. The 3 in my sig line were captive hatched from a wild mom who was injured an in for rehab and happened to lay eggs.

I can tell you where to find LOTS of eastern milks in upstate NY. I used to live near Watertown right next to Ft. Drum. There were a lot of Milk snakes there. I found one that was over four foot long once! The rest were usually around 3.5 foot or less. And in late summer I used to find lots of hatchlings every year.
