Interest in plans?

Tom Anderson Oct 06, 2004 09:13 PM

I am wondering if there is a large interest in plans for racks an enclosures. I have built several racks and enclosures in the last couple years that work well. I modeled them in CAD (engineer by day) to make it easier for me to build them. It would not be much trouble to take these models and make 'plans' for them as a public service to the reptile community - But I have a few questions:

Is there any interest in this?

How much detail is needed for those of you that are interested? For example, should I spec out details such as fasteners like #6x.75" flathead screws and where to buy them?

Would people prefer written instructions, drawings, or a combination?

If there is enough interest, I can try and put together some good step by step plans in a .pdf format.

Thanks you for you input.

Hi Tom,

I do believe there is an interest in this. My e-mail inbox basically proves it.

In general I would say people are looking for an accurate cut-list and then pictures rather than words showing how the pieces fit together. Often they also need pictures of how the basic tools work. Like a counter-sink bit on a drill, for example.

I would think the most success would come from your plans if the people had their material cut professionally and then do the assembly themselves.
