What Should I Buy? I Need Some Advice

wsurugby10 Oct 06, 2004 10:11 PM

I just got a 65 gallon tank (36x18x24) and I was wondering what type of lizard I should buy. I would like to get a pair of something but I have no clue what would be good for this tank. At first I was thinking a pair of Tokays but I would like to see what you guys suggest. Thanks for your time.

I ended up with so many different species , hehehe

But I breed collareds more than anything, they are friendly, handlable, and just splendidly colored.

You could have a trio, or a male and 3 females, and then children to follow, LOL

I say, just keep looking till you find a species that blows your socks off so to speak, they all do that to me, I have to

STOP LOOKING,

Let us know what you choose! Good Luck

Enjoy

Alright Eve I had never even looked at these lizards before you and now I'm really interested. Since you got me so interested you have to answer these questions I have. First off, how much do these guys cost and what are the specific housing requiremnets?(Lights, Heat, Humidity, etc.) What do these lizards eat? If I remember from biology the eat almost any insect but I can't remember if they eat any type of plant. If you could just give me a whole lot of info on these guys that would be great. It seems like you know what you're doing. Thanks for your time.

OKay I will give you a couple good sites to read, but a quick run down. I have none available till spring, but there are some in the classifieds.

Depending on what you want as far as color, The yellowheads ones run about 50.00 each The aquaflames, you can pick up for 20 - 40 a piece.

The desert collareds/ C. bicinctores about 20.00
The most expensive species are the Baja collared/ C. vestigium around 300.00 (pricey not many people have them)

and the Dickersonae, I did not have any of them on my site, they run in the 400.00 range

So most stick with just C. collaris in that group is the yellowheads and aquaflames, and many different colored ones. and more affordable.

Lighting, Basking 100 - 105 / 110 acceptable rest of tank high 80's to 90 and need uvb lighting also, or natural sun light.

Home depot washed play sand for substrate. And yes they are bug eaters.

Crickets are thier main diet, with superwoms, moths if you can catch them, they love them, grasshoppers, they like waxworms, spiders.

Here are a couple good sites to read, one is a forum buddies Will Wells, info and many pics ! And the other is a friend, also, good info.

Give them a looksie, and if your still interested, and have questions just come back to the collared forum, we will be glad to answer all your questions,

And, is it true that i read that they would also take some green's & fruits (mostly sweet soft fruits and some blossoms)? Jus curious.

I have some that will nibble on shredded carrot, none eat fruit, and not many ever eat greens, again maybe a nibble.

But they love chasing down insects !
