Back from vacation suprise.....Sunglow Litter!!

Brett Beiner Oct 06, 2004 10:20 PM

I new that one of my female albinos was due while I was on vacation, but while we were visiting London and Paris, I hadn't thought about it much.
Sure enough, we got home on Saturday and these babies were waiting.
The first thing I saw, though, was 2 slugs on top of the newspaper substrate. My heart skipped a beat.
Female Albino bred to a DH Sunglow male.
I estimate that they were dropped 2 days prior to getting home. I heard it rained late Wednesday night, so I suspect they were born very early Thursday. But I'll never know for sure.
Final count... 3 Sunglows, 5 Albinos, 5 DH Sunglows, 6 Het Albinos...all healthy. And 2 slugs.

I'm glad for you Brett, although there's no batwings or short tails...still a wonderful bunch of babies!

Congrats,

I'm still trying to understand boa genetics but how can you tell the DH sunglows from the het albinos? Those babies are beauties...do you have pics of the parents?

I know it's difficult to tell, but 5 of the babies are Hypo's...therefore DH Sunglow (Hypo Het Albino).
My camera exposed for the lighter colored snakes, the Sunglow's and Albino's, and the rest look really dark.
Plus, they are all going into shed.
The hypo's aren't going to be gorgeous colorful hypo's, but a couple of them look pretty unusual. We'll have to see after they shed.
I don't have any current pics of the parents. I could surely take some if necessary. The female albino is a run of the mill albino. Fairly washed out. The male DH Sunglow is on the darker side which I think might be a good thing. Maybe help give the offspring a better chance to retain more color.
Time will tell.

I keep forgeting that sunglow boas are a combo of hypo and albino...I sometimes forget the combos...
anery plus albino --->
hypo plus albino --->
anery plus hypo --->

ghosts, sunglows and snows...in some order or another...my brain hurts right now so I can't think anymore today...I'm shutting down my internal hard drive.lol
