new here...question on FBT's

janome Oct 06, 2004 10:29 PM

i am interested in getting some fire belly toads. i have snakes and anoles so want to try some toads. my friend has 2 and they are neat to watch.
i've read some about them and my friends says they are easy toads to start with. I have a 10 gallon tank I'm setting up(i've read a 10 gallon is ok for at least 2-3) with part water and part sloping gravel with a fake log to help hold up the gravel on the 'dry' side. i also have a little filter to filter the water. it's made to filter a shallow amount of water and i'm trying to create a little water fall.
i'm hoping the silk plants i bought are ok instead of the more expensive fake plants in the pet section.
does all this sound ok? am I missing something? i know they eat crickets and i already feed my anoles gutloaded, dusted crickets.
what else should i need? is the sloping gravel ok or do you really need soil, live plants for dry side?? Thanks anyone.

Sounds like you have a pretty good set up in mind. Your FBTs will love the crickets. and the silk plants should be fine.. they are the same thing.. just the aquarium, terrarium plants at the pet store are usually anchored in some way. Even if yo udo want to add live plants, you don't need soil... most terrarium plants come in little pots you can just sink into the gravel. Best of luck to ya! =D

i have to finish setting up the tank. are the toads that are sold at petsmart or petco good to buy? or should I wait for a reptile show? come to think of it i've only seen FBT for sale at one reptile show. my friend got hers at petsmart and they are doing great. i know petsmart has a better set up then petco so i'm thinking of getting them there.
