Unfortunate mishap...

monitorman315 Oct 07, 2004 12:13 AM

I drove to Phila PA to visit a friend and fellow enthusiast and finally had the pleasure of sseing a juvinile croc monitor in living color(pics do not do these guys justice) and witnessed an unfortunate mishap. Well my friend whom i won't name here, against my advice i might add, decided to take the croc(21" svl) from its enclosure to give me a better view of the little guy/girl and it jumped from his hands and wedged itself underneath its enclosure. Well after about an hour or so later we lured it out and just as he was about to grab it, it headed back under so he grabbed the animal by the base of the tail to pull it out just enough to get a hand on the body but the animal was determined not to come out so he pulled harder and got him out, grabbed it by its body while nearly being bitten and placed it back into its enclosure. Well once it was back in its enclosure we noticed when it was darting for its hide that it wasnt using one of its front right leg when it walked and just drug it along. I believe that he might of dislocated the animals leg by yanking him from up under the cage. Im sure he'll be taking it to a vet soon(i hope!) but i m wondering if anyone has had an animal dislocate a shoulder/leg and whether or not it heeled correctly?

Thanks for listening/ Cheers

Thats the thing, i could see it just fine. The enclosure had a full glass front which is why i suggest he not take it out in the first place.

Actually this is one of the very reasons im against handling monitors because in an instance something can go wrong.

cheers
