Harness/Leashes for Bearded Dragon?

carrottopsup Oct 07, 2004 01:17 AM

Hi. Could any of you please tell me, what in your opinion, is the best harness to get for my bearded dragon? I don't want to buy something that could possibly hurt him. Do they make a harness just for a beardie? How do I tell what size to get for him or are they adjustable for the size of the dragon?

Lizards shouldn't be put on a leash normally, they don't really understand the concept, and will get tangled in them. Beardies are really wide so most of the commercial lizard leashes won't fit. The only ones I would use if you really wanted one are just a loop that does around their belly, right above thier hind legs, if that makes any sense. If you want your dragon to get some sun, a small reptarium works well.

in fact Drako gets very excited when he sees it! He LOVES going for walks--even though he is held most of the time outside. If we decide to stop for a bit and let him down we first look around to make sure the area is "Lizzard safe"--no small rocks he could eat, inedible bugs...Drako thinks he needs to taste everything!

Just make sure the "leather" part is large enough to go mostly around him--and that the arm holes are adequate. Ours has an adjustable closure...

My daughter likes to sit outside on the patio while he basks. Drako is kept on a leash for his own safety. Sometimes she gets distracted while talking to friends--and we would all hate to loose him! (AND he HAS tried to escape!)

We got our leash at a local pet shop for around $10.
