Blind Gecko

smoloney Oct 07, 2004 12:30 PM

We found our gecko to have a crusty eye this am. Upon further inspection and cleaning we found it to be swollen and yellow in color with absolutly no resemblance of an eye. The other eye seems to be ok but we cant get the eye open to inspect it. Does any one now what this is or what could have caused it?

I would suggest taking it to the vet. It could just be a very bad eye infection. One of our juv. females eyes was swollen and it looked terrible, after awhile it went back to normal. We were sure she would be blind in that one eye, but she seems to see fine with it now.

Sorry I couldn't help you more. Hopefully everything will be alright. We have had one of our leos pass away in May and it was our childrens favorite leo, and we ended up having to buy them another leo so they could name it the same thing...as if by our list of leos we needed another...lol (children are 7 &4) Hope all goes well. Keep us posted as to what is wrong with your leo.

Well back from the vet and hopefully all will be fine. She was dehidrated with a severe eye infection. The hard glob in the eye was actually puss. They removed it gave her 2-shots and hydrated her. We also have some ointment to put on it. Apparently on reptiles the infection is differnat than us. They get a hard glob insteads of the soft yellow puss we are used to seeing. We are to force feed her tommorrow and keep her warm and moist. They also said if the temperature was a little low inthe tank there immune system doesnt work properly if they dont keep a warm temp. My kids are 9 and 12 and very relieved the vet was able to help. The vet said this is the third case of eye infections in the las couple of weeks. Who nows it is extremly warm and dry around here along with the dust from the farmers harvesting. Keeping our fingers crossed she pulls through. Thanks for everything
