Leo Gecko Eggs

Renee524 Oct 07, 2004 12:31 PM

My leo has just laid her second clutch, and I am incubating them. The first clutch, I had a little bit of a problem with moisture, and the eggs dented slightly. It seems I have corrected that, but now there are brown spots on the egg where they are lying in the dirt. Is this mold, if so how do I get rid of it??? This is my first breeding experience I WOULD REALLY APPRECATE SOME ADVISE!! Also how exactly can you candle an egg, I don't think the light I am using is bright enough.

Well first of all....if you have your new eggs with your old ones remove them if you think you might have mold because it can spread to the new ones. Second as far as candleing them...well we took a flash light and held the eggs above the light and if you see the "red bullseye" or veins then they are fertile. If you don't see either of those things then they aren't fertile. As far as getting mold off we haven't had any sucess with removing it so I'm not going to give you advice on that. Hope this helps you some.

The eggs are in seperate dated containers, just in the same incubator. I only have one to use. I have been using a flash light and I can see veins. I know this sounds like the dumbest question ever, but where would the bullseye be?? I just want to make sure I put my best effort into it. I'd be really disappointed if I did something wrong, and the eggs didn't hatch.

I'm sure you know this but I will tell you anyways....When the eggs are hatched and you make a little line on the top you should never move the postion on the egg. The "bullseye" would be on the top. When you hold the egg up to the light there should be a red glow on the top of the egg. Hope this helps you. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask and I'm sure someone will do their best to answer.

aHA! Thats bout where I can see veins. Not really sure about a bulls eye, but my flashlight kinda sucks. I drew the little lines on them when she laid them. And I try to move them as little as possible. Thanks for the advise!
