I have a special pet crested (Brick, because from a buckskin she suddenly turned brick-red one day) which I got as a tiny baby and raised up. She's now about 1.5 years, and I have always spoken to and handled her and she seems fine with it. When I do handle her, she makes a kind of very quiet whistling/snuffling noise, almost like a person would if they had a touch of congestion in their nose. She never seems panicked or frightened at all, takes me in stride, just wondering whether anyone else who has made a pet of a crested has had any experience like this. I think it's cute, except I am concerned about the possibility that she does have the start of a cold or allergy.
