I live in oregon and I want to buy hot snakes in florida. And of course you need a permit there. Do I have to do all the stuff that a resident does. Anybody that has a permit that doesn't live in florida give me a little info.

If you get it shipped to you, you shouldn't have any problems needing a florida permit. Lots of outfits advertising here on this site will ship to all over the country and make it "the buyer's responsible for all permit and local law adherence"
So, I don't see why you would need to worry about a florida permit if you are getting it shipped to oregan.
If I only buy one snake it is not a problem. I just call, say "send me a snake" and then it comes. But that is real spendy when I want five baby rattlesnakes at no more than 40 bucks a piece from five different places. That is a lot of cash for shipping for not a lot of cash in snakes.
So I came here to florida to buy a lot of snakes because of the huge selection. Then ship them all at once myself and save a lot of money. But I can't buy them.
So I have a few options: a) get a permit. b) drive to south carolina. c) find somebody that will sell them to me. I also thought of finding somebody with a permit to buy them for me and hold them till I ship them, but no luck there, as I want to drive all over the state to buy them and they don't have the time.
Anyway, I am in the Fort Lauderdale area. Anybody that can give me some info on this email me at: Rolikei305@aol.com I am willing to go almost anywhere to get good snakes.
I understand safety is important, but I am from a state with almost no regulations on snakes. Just let me get the friggin snakes and be on my way.
a) is not an option.
I am curious as how I could get a snake without using option "A".
Maybe you know something I do not about the florida snake scene.
To get a florida permit you must:
a) be a resident of Florida.
b) get 1000 hours of training with venomous snakes.
c) have your facility inspected.
That's why a) isn't an option for you.
How do people come from out of state and get snakes at all the shows here. There is no way that every single person that gets a hot snake at the shows is from florida. I find it real hard to believe that nobody at all comes from another state and buys a snake here without having to ship it. How come people from other states can bring snakes here and sell them at the shows. Wouldn't they have to get a permit to keep them here?
I already have a lot of experience with venomous snakes. I have bred hundreds of the little buzzworms (that is what my friends refer to baby rattlers as). Why on earth would I have to live here and work for a year with snakes just to buy a snake to send it out of state to someplace you don't even need a permit. And how would I get all this additional experience with venomous snakes if I can't even get one. Option "b" is lookin pretty good
AND THINK THIS ALL STARTED OVER MY WANTING SOME LITTLE OL DUSKY PIGMYS.
somebody needs to email me with some more info this is gettin ruff. Rolikei305@aol.com
You just might need to write Fish and Game and explain your situaion in wrting. You should write a letter then have two references. Explain what you keep and have had experience with. My buddy up in GA had the same problem. But he did the letters ect and they sent him one. Just my 2 Cents

You DO NOT need to be a resident of Florida to get a Florida venomous permit.
You will have to provide two copies of the venomous permit application (downloadable from the FL F&WCC webpage.
You do have to prove your documented time working with venomous herps.
You do need to provide at least two letters of reference pertaining to your experience with venomous herps.
You do need to pay the (now, since 12 June 2003) $100 fee.
It will take about a month to get your permit so if you want it before Daytona, you need to get busy.
Any other questions could be directed to the folks at

Several of their members who do not live in Florida have Florida venomous permits. They can tell you how to go about it.

There really is no legal way to do what you want to do. You can't "possess" venomous snakes in Florida without a Florida permit. You can't get a Florida permit without moving to Florida, and even if you did that it would take you a year and 1000 hours of work to get it, so there goes your savings 50 times over...
Unless you can find a permit holder who is willing to travel around the state with you just to transport your snakes (which doesn't sound likely) your only hope is to find a dealer that has all the snakes you want.
This is not good. But how do people bring snakes from out of state to the shows. I am sure a lot of the people in daytona this august won't be florida residents. How do they sell them here if they have no permit.
And totally aside from this but what is the drill when you pick up delta dash air cargo for snakes where you need a permit. In oregon you sign you pay you leave. I don't know about anywhere else. I have a friend going to india in a few days and they said they would find someone there that could send me some stuff.
As AnonEMouse pointed out, you can get a permit as a non-resident. (Sorry, brain spasm!)

As for the daytona venomous expo: People can buy snakes there without a FL permit if they are from out of state, but they won't be allowed to transport the snake through the state without a permit. Customers without FL permits will have to have their snakes shipped to them.
