Caiman Id please

Langi Oct 07, 2004 04:41 PM

I volunteer at an exotic animal rescue and we recently had a baby caiman donated. He is approx. 15in. long, and is mostly black with grayish yellow bands. He has very large eyes and a short snout. I'm assuming he's one of the more common types of caiman, he was somebody's pet and if he donated him he probably wouldn't spend alot on a rarer species. Sorry I don't have a picture but the only pic I have is very blurry but I can post it anyways if you want. Thanks.

Most likely if the person just brought it to the shelter like that then it probally is a spectacled caiman (C. crocydilus). They get up to 9 ft and are one of the more aggressive caiman species. It would also help if you provide a picture. take it easy.
