Aww thats a shame, He is so cute! Just give him a month or two and try to hand feed him, They mellow out sometimes, If you bought him online he could still be in stress from the move. Be sure that everything in the tank is normal, And just give him time, Lots and lots of time.

Yes, they are typically meaner.

I have a blizzard and she has a heart of gold. OF GOLD.

I think it would be extremely hard to stereotype, if you will, blizzards as being mean. Maybe this myth has circulated, and people who've had 'mean' blizzards have spoken up, thinking it was true. Compared to other 'normals', people might not say anything about their mean gecko, simply because they assumed it was from bad husbandry, not genetic.

Even, I'll be a little farfetch'd here, blizzards may be predisposed to having worse eyesight, hearing, etc., than other geckos, and this could make some aggressive-- know what I mean? No one reeally knows if it's just blizzards.

You can ask a number of breeders, and they will attest to blizzards normally being bad-tempered supposedly due to genetics. This doesn't mean they're incapable of being tamed, but they certainly require A LOT more work than the average leo.

I checked out the pictures you just posted. Are you sure your blizzard isn't actually a patternless?

I could see how'd you think that.

On a better day, better lighting.

Anyway, it could very well be that they are more aggressive, but "genetics" is a very broad term. If only we had scientists in this field, heh. Or if someone other than myself actually wanted to know.

The two main speculations I've heard are that extensive inbreeding led to behavioral issues (kind of like with dobermans), or there's a "mean gene" associated with the blizzard mutation.

There are actually quite a few scientists in the herp trade. It's just that we lack leopard gecko specific research.

I also believe that Blizzards are far harder to tame typically.. I have a Blizzard and she's been nasty since I got her.. BUT.. I have been working with her and I can now pick her up and she only screeches instead of flipping out at me, lol. Almost everyone complains how mean their Blizzard is and I agree that the behavioral pattern has been basically bred into them. I hope my opinion helps. See ya!
