I don’t have any full body photos available, least nothing that would do them justice

These monitors are still recovering from thermal trauma, and I don’t want to disturb them before full recovery, however aim anxious for a good photo session with them.

harely Oct 07, 2004 10:30 PM

cold temps steve?

alex

jobi Oct 07, 2004 10:50 PM

No the male suffered sever burns to hands forearms left side and part of tail, consequently internal infection, the female lost almost all of her back claws, don’t ask me how that happened? I really have no comprehension about how this can happen to a monitor, all I can say is that I regret selling them more then anything iv don before. These monitors where absolutely flawless, they hade no fear of me whatsoever, It was a painful re acquaintance. Glad both are healed, it will take a long time before they get back to where they where before.

harely Oct 07, 2004 10:56 PM

sorry to hear that steve I too know what it is like to lose a precious animal as my little man pictured lost his girl last week.

Man those crosses are handsome! Now if john can breed his sulphurs you’d have a real match

harely Oct 07, 2004 11:14 PM

ha ha ha ha ha ha they do have simialr ocelli dont they thatd be crazy colors my friend some day.....wishful thinking ....but i am looking for a female cross or marmo pure or really nice female salv sp??? to pair him up with

alex

jobi Oct 07, 2004 11:36 PM

Any of these common morphs females coupled with your male would produce awesome babies.

harely Oct 09, 2004 12:08 AM

Those are smokers steve and yes I think theyd produce awesome babies, ha ha ha ha but how do i get something like that here in into or in the states lol

alex

jobi Oct 09, 2004 08:36 AM

Aim sure you have these in USA, the speckled is a WC I got last week, john says its Sumatran, I think PE holds them, the other is from a bloodline I got in 89 from Thailand supplier, again john says its from Bangkok. I really don’t think it makes any difference WC or CB at this age, its your husbandry that maters.

JPsShadow Oct 09, 2004 09:00 AM

Very nice looking bluetails you have. I have seen only one come into florida awhile back. I have seen them on a few of the japanese exporters sites.

I would say your waters are sumatran and javan.

harely Oct 09, 2004 01:06 PM

Hey Steve I havent seen one like the one on the right as of yet with the exception of these crosses. I found the female I was looking for and I think the male is going to take to her very nicely as he is a very tolerant animal. Now my endeavours take me to cumingi and maybe perhaps sulfurs (wishful thinking) lol

alex

jobi Oct 09, 2004 08:32 PM

So you got a female! Excellent good news, your male is so nice it would be a shame not to pair him. Id love to see her! As for sulphurs man these are way up there in the monitor all of fame, maybe one day some will pass my way?

harely Oct 09, 2004 08:59 PM

Hey you never know my friend, but I hope you do get some your way. I know theyre pricey, but damn theyre beautiful....Ill post the pics jody sent me if its ok with him. She is not with me yet, but will be at the end of this month along with my male. She looks javan, but we shall see.

alex

jobi Oct 09, 2004 10:01 PM

Good! This give you some time to practise your door lock technique, Get out lock the door! Again out lock the door!

harely Oct 09, 2004 11:29 PM

Ha Ha Ha Ha easier said then done when you have someone break in and steal your animals, but yes This wont be a problem as I will be building a new reptile building which will have an alarm that way there wont be a repetition of what happened. Steve how are the macraei eggs doing?

alex

jobi Oct 10, 2004 11:20 AM

All hatched just fine, a zoo wanted them but I opted to keep and expand my colony, tree varanids have been my main interest for 20 years, my collection is extensive (numerous ssp) my love for them is selfish, I don’t want to spark any interest in them, therefore I avoid any discussion, its because of these I got shatter proof glass, alarm system and generator.
Stay away from them they are addictive!

harely Oct 10, 2004 01:26 PM

Your warning is far too late Steve as I am thinking of getting or will be getting a pair of blue and green tree monitors at the end of this month. Ha ha ha ha ha IF theyre that addicting then I am in trouble. LOL IF you have any husbandry info on these guys that youre willing to share email me

varanio@hotmail.com

thanks alex

Its been 4 years of internet for me, one thing iv learned is passing on information without the possibility to follow-up on one keepers progression is a total waste. First information is subject to interpretation, theirs no 2 person that will apply it in the same manner, the same can be said about understanding. Also it appears that aim a very pour teacher, I personally think FR is much better then me at this, also iv noticed that some peoples where mixing information’s from different sources, this isn’t good, one should stick to a base and adjust according to his own experience. I will leave you with an example of what I mean! Tell me how you have perceived this?
No1 most peoples keep tree monitors to humid, a raise in humidity is part of a female’s cycle. No2 once a tree monitor has nested, all nesting material should be discarded if a new cycle is desired (why on earth would a female want to nest where predators can sniff out her eggs?) remember predators can be microscopic.

harely Oct 10, 2004 10:46 PM

Is this an example of husbandry examples that people should not take in mind or should....lol I know what you mean and it makes sense. A climb in humidity to promote the female to cycle....sounds fair...

thanks for the tips steve

ill post pics of the new rascals when i get
them

alex

jobi Oct 11, 2004 02:39 AM

My example is you can rethink NO1 and NO2 forever and the answers will keep changing with your experience! Learning is a constant progression and so is evolution, as you keep learning with every clutches, your monitors keep adapting.
This is why I take MS and Mark with a grain of salt, they want to write science in stone!
It was a nice conversation Alex
Thank you

harely Oct 11, 2004 03:29 PM

Indeed it was steve no name calling and nothing was banned from either party......if only the world could work this smooth...lol, but keep those pictures coming steve as I always enjoy the pics you post specially the mullet one that one was great ....cool halloween costume ...

I just recieved a small juvie today. I just checked the temps in the enclosure with a Pro Exotics Temp Gun and found around 130f under light at highest basking spot, 90 on floor above under tank, and 70 on the cool side. Does this sound good? I know some people keep temps high 24hrs. I turn my overheads off at night but have undertank on. What is your opinion?
I will be sure to post some pics as soon as my camera gets back from vacation. This little guy is damn handsome. Not a hypo or orange spot but nice high yellow even compared to most hatchlings bright colors.
I keep doing searches and have found some info and pics but let me know if you know of any I should check out. I have a number of monitors and have brought up hatchlings but always looking for more info and pics.
Kevin

jobi Oct 08, 2004 12:08 AM

I cant give you my opinion as I don’t know how your set up is, I know if you have taken pro exotic advise on husbandry, then you must be doing ok
Let us see some photos soon!

wingert Oct 08, 2004 12:44 AM

Gee, thanks for all the info.

jobi Oct 08, 2004 08:01 AM

PE care sheet is a good base to start with, I think that’s good advise!
Sorry but I cant help you any farther without seeing your set up, theirs way to many variables in husbandry and advise given is subject to interpretation. After a few years on internet aim realising that experience should be passed on in person for it to be meaningful.

Thanks, all I really wanted was to see some pics and hear some info from others that are keeping Blue Tails. I am not to worried about my set up I just figured it would start some good theads and conversation. Your monitor is very nice. Are there a good number of cbb produced yearly?
Kevin

jobi Oct 08, 2004 01:55 PM

The problem with doreanus is they are thin skinned with long teeth’s, add to this a flighty temperament and you end up with injuries more often then eggs. Raising solo individual is quit easy, matching them up requires attention and experience. Best of luck

vcreations Oct 08, 2004 08:21 PM

She's very beautiful steeve. It was tempting to pick up a female blue tail at a show the other day, they are very pretty animals.

good luck with the pair.

Make that snout a little bit longer and her head would be shaped identical to my female croc's. Beautiful animals.
