First Tribolonotus hatchling!!!

silver_arctic1 Oct 07, 2004 08:01 PM

My first Tribolonotus egg hatched today! The baby is awesome!!! It's been quite a while since I first discovered the egg and ever since then, I've been checking on it frequently within the last week and today, I saw white liquid coming out from a small hole in the egg so I took it out and placed it in a separate container to hatch. It took quite a while, but the baby just finally came out! =D

This is my first time with the skinks and I'm psyched that it's going very well!

The baby is doing just fine...and the parents are really sweet. I placed the baby on a branch and the mother came out and climbed up after it. She keeps licking and nudging at it. =)

It's a shame I don't have a good camera to get some pics of the hatchling. =(

Major Congrats!
But I'd be extremely wary of putting the baby with adults, I've never seen cannibalism in Skinks, but it happens often enough in other Families.. Keep him seperate until he's larger or you hear from someone else who knows if it's safe

First off congrats...I am really interested in what happens with the interaction of the hatching and the adults..All the tribs I have hatched so far I have always kept separated from the parents... just for safety reasons.. Another things with these little guys hydrateding seems to be a very important factor in there early development… there first shed seems to happen within a few days..
Also be on the look out for Another egg… Female Tribs seem to lay one egg. about the same time when first one hatches( every 70 days and the female only has one oviduct on the left side”) …they tend to have a total of 3 eggs per season…
Let Me know how things go…
Maybe drop me an e-mail..
I am trying to compile a nice care sheet.. For Tribs , and any extra data would be great..
