Hypsiglena torquata (Night Snake)

Ryan-reptilian Oct 07, 2004 10:15 PM

This is my first Night Snake find. I believe it's San Diego subspecies. Can anyone back me up on this? He's (or she) about 9 1/2" and has a hearty appetite.

Hey Ryan,

Though I can't back you up on the San diego subspecies thing,
I wanted to say nice find. My Stebbins says they love Side-blotched lizards. Shoot me an e-mail sometime, will ya?
Talk to you soon.

Nice work. Ive kept them in the past. They can make pretty good pets. If you want to find more, you might try rock flipping in the spring, I dont know if folks find them that way or not down there. Is there a local skink species? Side-blotched lizards are often too large for the young night snakes. Also, people have trained them to eat pinks.
