giant tadpole/frog

Justin Stricklin Jun 27, 2003 08:45 PM

T have taken a pic of a large tadpole in a magazine( kens fish hatchery) of a person holding a large tadpole. They call them giant bull frogs.they aslo carry regular sized bull frog tadpoles too. I called to ask how big of a frog the tadpoles turn in to. He said the body is much bigger than both of your hands put together, and while holding the tip of its legs are at your elbow. He said they weight over three pounds each. This is one of the old magazines and the nuumber on it does not work and I had to go to the web site to get the number. http://kens-fishfarm.com/. Could anyone tell me what species and where to get a few from. You have to pay like $98 fro just the shipping, then the box and all that crap, and I don't have a pod to put them in so i'm not spending all that money for them.

Wow that is just a huge tadpole, what magazine did you get that out of? I have never seen a tadpole taht big.

Justin Stricklin Jun 28, 2003 12:18 AM

Ken's hatchery and fish farm inc. You can go to their site that I posted earlier and call them for a magazine. You can probably ask for volume 19. That is the one I got the pic from. They probably have it in the now issues. I have no clue. If you can wait I'll post when I recieve their newer issue on whether or not they have pics of them. I have just ignored this magazine for a few years and just thought about doing this today. They may have a pic of the frog too. I thought hat it might bve the goliath frog. But on that show almighty amphibians they said they don't breed in cap[tivity. If anyone knows what the real name is please tell me.

Who knows, and I'll be waiting to see if there is anything about them or any other pics when you post.

puffytoad Jun 28, 2003 12:34 AM

holy crap, is that thing real? it would be cool to own one.

Justin Stricklin Jun 28, 2003 01:21 AM

Yes it is real. It would be very cool to own one. The tadpole actually looks young. It has those small little white spots on its back on each side, and is a very dark colr like young norm bullfrog tads. If anyone on here buys any from his fish farm please ship one to me. I'll pay for everything. I belive the catalog said they are $1 each. The adult frogs were $25. they also sale large bags of frog pellet food that they raise thre frogs on. If I ever go around their area I'll sure stop buy and buy more than i want to ship you guys some if you want.I'll buy over 100 probably, I will put many in my papas pond. Thanks.

maybe it is a goliath frog tadpole that was caught in the wild, and they'll just send anyone who orders one, a bullfrog tadpole. looks suspicious to me!

Nope not a goliath frog tadpole, ive seen goliath frog tadpoles there not really that big,in fact there smaller than bullfrog tadpoles.I think ive seen that kind of tapole before i heard its one of the largest tadpoles in the world but when it transforms it turns into a (believ it or not) a very small frog.

puffytoad Jun 28, 2003 03:15 PM

lol thats funny :D anyway, that site stated the minimum order is at least 500 counts.

birdznfrogs Jun 28, 2003 05:17 PM

I can't believe there such a thing! My first guess was a goliath, but like said they don't breed in captivity, and there rare in the wild. You sure that isn't some good computer animation, lol.

I'd certaintly like to here about anyone who thinks of getting one. Man that thing would be a food guzler, and a poop machine...lol.

The thing that makes no sence to me is how, and little frog like said, would lay eggs, and the eggs would become such an ogre of a taddy.

Yep true,ive seen it.

puffytoad Jun 28, 2003 06:14 PM

so you mean it grows backward??? big to small? *shrugs*

snakeguy88 Jun 28, 2003 08:42 PM

Exactly...the frog is called paradox frog. The tadpoles can reach almost a foot and, if this is the paradox frog, the adults are barely 2 inches long. Andy

nothere are no compter graphics or anything. Just call the guys up and ask how big a frog it makes. It said in the magazine that These make a much bigger bull frog than regular bull forgs. I bet they just sor of made a new hybrid thing because Hens is one of the largets fish farms in the world and the largets frog farm in U.S. That si my gues. They made the hybrid georgia giant hybrid bream. Those grow faster and get much bigger. ( 5 lbs) in I belive just one year. Who knows. I might make aa trip up there some day.. I will probably cll tomarrow if they open and ask if they look like normal bull frogs and get more details. I'll let you know in a new thread so this won't be down so far.

hmm this is very interesting. why would they farm paradox frogs if indeed thats what is was. theres not much meat in them at 2" lol. just curious, where does the paradox frog originate from? Justin, keep us inform if you do decided to call the farm up! :D

snakeguy88 Jun 28, 2003 09:24 PM

They originate from South America...probably someone in the suriname/guyanas/venezuela area, though you should not quote me on that...Andy

hmm..i was looking at that site and on the bio it stated that he was in south america studying amazon bullfrogs farming. so maybe thats how the hybred is created you think? n. american/amazonian mix?

snakeguy88 Jun 29, 2003 04:45 PM

Amazonian bullfrog are of the genus Leptodactylus. I highly doubt they are compatible. Andy

Interesting, I just learned something new. It really does not look like a bullfrog tadpole either. Maybe someone is creating a hoax?
