sealant for cage?

snakemanmatt30 Jun 27, 2003 08:50 PM

Hello, we just got home from lowes and I found some precut oak or birch pieces of wood. I am planning on builing a cage from them and was wandering what to seal the cage with. (I heard polyurethane was good) Anyway, suggestions would be great Thanks Matt

I have only built a few cages from wood but poly is great not only dose it seal good it makes cleaning easy.I would use a wood primer or stain first cause it will soak up poly quick on naked wood. Also if you let it dry and use steel wool to smooth it between coats[about 2-3coats ]it makes it real smooth.Make sure you let it dry when done at least 24hours to get rid of toxic fumes when dry it will be fine.P-RAT

Hello Matt, good luck with those cages and sealing them this weekend, hopefully all goes or went well. If you get a chance post some pics of them, it's always nice to see home made cages.

Havea a good day,

Gregg F.
