ind of a stupid egg question

snakelady Oct 08, 2004 12:13 PM

Howdy there! Ok, I have a bit of a question for y'all... My frillies had a nice clutch of 6 eggs a while ago, and due to a long story involving a Wyoming desert heat spike all but one of the eggs went bad... Now... This last egg has me confused, seriously... It looks great, nice and white and fairly firm (I guess along the lines as how my fertile leo eggs feel)... It has grown larger since it was laid. It has no fuzzy mould/fungus/anything, no dimples, flawless... Except for one thing... It was due to hatch by 7/29 (90 day mark). I haven't disposed of it yet simply because it still looks so good... SO... Has anyone had an egg last this long or am I just experiencing a fluke of preservation before it goes bad? Or is there any way that this egg is good? This was my first clutch of my first frillies so I don't exactly have all the experience to lean on.
Thanks!
-Sara

Hi
Unfortunately this is very common. Frilled eggs are notorious for going full term, looking great, but never hatching (if you cut them open, the embryo is partially developed). One of the tricky parts about breeding these guys. Your egg is probably not going to hatch, but I never toss them until they are molded and shrivelled
Best of luck next time.

The egg dimpled in only two days ago but I could tell that it was going to go bad (getting that yellow shade about the edges and such). So I DID cut it open, it was an interesting experience (not as interesting as it hatching, but hey... Science is science). The embryo was partially developed, 4 legs, tail, getting some patterning, scales, but instead of a head it had a yolk-sack looking membranous bubble (filled with yellow 'stuff'). Too bad I don't have a digital camera, I don't know about the rest of you but I think its just something interesting.
Thank for the time!
