hibernation......already?

Crotaphytuskidd Oct 08, 2004 12:43 PM

hey guys,

its kinda slow here, so I thought i'd take this opportunity to lament about the onslaught of winter. I haven't seen much in the way of reptiles period lately. It kinda sucks....How does everyone feel about winter? Is it a small vacation from the rigors of Chuck/herp keeping, or is it the most boring time of the year? I tend to go with the latter, but I don't keep the amount of animals some of you heavy-hitters do, so let me know. Coming soon, only to the Chuckwalla forum: Winter: Good or Bad?

Thanks guys,
-Phil

It can become pretty exciting too. I like to take the time my lizards are brumating to set up new tanks, and perhaps rear some babies. For some reason, my collareds decided now was the best time to start breeding. I have three females that started to exhibit their breeding colors in the last week.

I don't have much tank space, but if all goes well, I will have some adults in the refrigerator and some babies growing up in their tanks. I kind of like the break of purchasing food too, but I hate not seeing the lizard activity.

Hate it! Keep looking in on everybody! But I have alot that do not brumate also, so I can still go in and see lizard activity, take my pics and watch them.

Hope that Brumation ends FAST !

I will finally get a chance to spray for bugs BUGS and MMMOOOOORREEEE BUGGGS that are ripping my cactus a "new one" this year!! My chucks are coming out less and the DIs have been gone since early Sept! The spineys will be active all year when conditions are right. I have been blessed with plenty of red spinder mites, scale & mealy bugs this summer and my plants are thinking i am not a nice-a man for not spraying more!!

And JohnE---- your Collareds are normal----- It's always the right time of the year to start breeding!!!!
