Man, it must be nice to have a basement! Wish I had on, only things we call them something different here in Florida. Swimming Pools!!!
Sweet man!!! She is an awesome looking animal and she deserves a top notch cage. What is the white board?? I am assuming for water proofing?? Are you going to the Hamburg show next weekend?
Its darn near indestructible plastic reinforced with fiberglass, it will line all but the top, and top 1 foot of her cage. The sides and bottom will be completely sealed.
I should be there, cant see why not. Ill know in a few days if I got the day off.
why not do the top also. humidity risies??
The FRP is mainly to protect the sides and bottom from direct contact with water and to protect them from her claws (she can dig into melamine some and into wood), the FRP she cant damage and wont take damage from direct moisture, its completely waterproof.
Hi Shvar,
Nothing is completely water-proof - ask any of the [few] survivors from RMS Titanic!
It may protect, but eventually water manages to get into anything...given temps, humidity, animnals' wear & tare, etc...
it is just a matter of time...
Good Luck,
mbayless
The titanic as an analogy, hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Your post is absolutely meaningless. Again
The question of this thread is, will this method, last for the period of intented use. Not forever or to sail the 7 seas.
For some people, (maybe you), bare wood will last longer then the animal enclosed. Painted wood, will last even longer. FRP, installed properly will last the lifetime of the keeper.
For your information, Fiberglass cages, will last many lifetimes of varanids. Even Roto-molded plastic cages(vision) will last many lifetimes(indoors) of varanids, without problem.
Cage building methods are like husbandry, they are only as good as how well they are applied, they are of little value as a bunch of words on paper.
The great thing with SHvar, he will indeed put monitor to cage and his methods of construction will be tested. Then he will find out how well this method and his application works. You sir, will continue to utter nonsense. FR
It was 3/4 inch plywood lined with FRP and all corners sealed with GE silicone 2, it was used with some bosc monitors I believe, then it was empty for a month or 2, he filled it with water in his basement and used it for an aquarium for over 5 years before he set it up as an ackie cage, its still in use for ackies today (a trio). Sobek current cage is melamine, water resistant but not waterproof (it has pores), it also has a less durable surface, but the corners are completely sealed and it will hold water without leaking.
