I'm going to build a rack system for rosy boas. The ambient room temp varies a lot, and can get cold in the winter (60 degrees?)
I'll be running heat tape under the rear end of each shelf. I will either use the 3" tape (10 watt per foot) or 4" heat tape (8 watts per foot), but I don't know which is best for my needs. The rack I'll build will have an insulated back, and be tall and narrow. rack
3' wide
8' tall
12 shelves with 3 11"x16" tubs each
So there will be a total of 36' of heat tape which will add up to either 290 watts or 360 watts total - which is a lot, but only about 8 or 10 watts per cage.
I'll use a single dimmer to limit max heat, and a thermostat to keep the whole system temp constant.
Who has experience with this question of 3" vs 4" heat tape?
Will the 3" be too hot (concentrated)?
Will the 4" be too too wimpy.
