Kong Hitching A Ride

PHEve Oct 08, 2004 03:33 PM

KOng the BIG ole aquaflame male collared,

hitching a ride with Cleo a REALLY BIG Egyptian Uromastyx.

Cleo is my burn rescue lady Uro I adopted 5 - 6 years ago shes a sweety, she was out for a walk while I was cleaning some tanks, I looked around and saw Kong sitting on her back as she was walking.

Looked kind of CRAZY, so YEP I reached for the camera, hahahha

Cleo was severely burned a ways back, 3d degree, Think I told you, poor thing, had a big open bloody wound on her back and sides for a year.

I never knew who/ or how she got that way, just adopted her from a good person who could not devote the time to her she needed.

Many soaks in benadine each day, tons of tubes of neosporin, and could only have a 40 watt light on just enough to sustain her. Anything more would burn. Nothing in her tank except paper towels. At night so she felt secure I pau a light weight baby blanket over her.

But she finally healed, and is extremely tame, maybe not beutiful with her scars to most, but she is to me

And YES, I keep the camera in the reptile room. LOL

Hows Helgas toes?

well i think she is absolutely beautiful and the only reason i asked if that was her scar is because i was not sure if it was supposed to be there or not. it totally looks like a little pattern. it looks like it has yellow in it, or maybe that is just kong bringing out her colors
helga's feet are the same. it has not spread but it has not gone away either. it is not absesses or anything, just black on her toes and i am way to uncoordinated to do the honey thing on my own. she really misses substrate as she has shredded her paper towels and pushes them into the doorway of her hide spot everyday.
i just ordered her a new tank: 48x18x13 acrylic tank so now walter and milly get to have her old one. every but me will have so much space

It is so true, the animals sure get there space, I know how you feel, You are in an apartment, I have a house, but still have something in evey corner around here.

AHHHHH whats a home without LIVE STOCK, hehehhehehe

Have you ever tried to soak Helga in a Provodine Iodine solution bath? Its the same as the Benodine, but generic and much less expensive.

It was awesome in keeping Cleos back and sides from infection.

I bought a rubbermaid low tub put in warm water up to her shoulder, they like it very warm, and poured enough of the provodine solution in to make it a weak tea color, and let her stand in it. About 20 minutes

You would not have to have it that deep, you just would want Helga to stand in it maybe up to her tummy. They love just sitting in it if the water is warm enough.

Cleo used to put her head under and take big swallows, ahhhhhh I was scared at first, but it never hurt her.

I think it would really help her feet. It is great stuff.

awesome suggestion. i will have to try it because that is the same thing i was putting on ivan's neck at first after walter's love bite. i am glad you added the thing about drinking it. that was the first thing that popped into my head. well i am off to walmart because helga needed to soak anyway to aid in this peeling process

unfortunately california seems very snobby about outside business so there are no CVS's here. walmart and its partners, walgreens and target were the only names i recognized out here. however i do like the fact that they have grocery stores called "vons" it's like my own private chain i have the stuff and am getting ready to soak my girl whether she likes it or not

hey how often did you do the soak thing? daily? anyway the little goober decided to take a nice sized poo while she was in there so i think that negates all the medicine since she wallowed in her own poo for up to 15 minutes

Yes, I soaked her daily until she was healed.

Vonnie, I'm telling you it WILL make a difference, I wish I would have thought of telling you to soak her in that earlier!

Hope her tootsies heal super fast!

That was one of the nicest things I think I have ever read.

You have no idea how SPECIAL YOU are, I'm sure your parents are quite PROUD, It sure is enjoyable talking and sharing what we learn with one another. Having the same interest !

For a younger person, as far as your caring, and way you handle yourself, you have wisdom beyond your years !
A Kind Soul, I can tell.

And I think thats the SECRET INGREDIENT needed in life, besides FAITH

My animal care always NEEDS improvement, I always need to know things, and do things different, I MESS up through trial and error, all the time believe me.
I may not have the most money at times for the biggest tanks, or the top of the line this or that.

But they will get the best of what I have, including me, heheheheh, as long as they keep allowing me to take their pics, LOL

You like little quotes, I have this written where I can always view it, by Mark Twain:

** Kindness is a laungage, in which the deaf are able to hear.
And the blind able to see. **
