Azureus Stopped Eating!!

angelsboas Oct 08, 2004 04:56 PM

We had two azureus along with two (same size) auratus in a 20 long. They are still very small, however we got them from a person who works (and breeds them) at the zoo. Everyone was doing well for about 5 weeks. Suddenly, both azureus were always seen together, and one stopped eating. Two days later it was gone. Now, a week or so later, the other azureus is looking puny and refusing food as well. His skin looks dry (as did the one that died right before he died.)We mist them frequently and keep temp monitored. Have plenty of fresh food and clean dechlorinated water daily. The temp is normally about 70-73 degrees-humidity is kept around 100%.We are dusting the fruit flies with "Dendrocare" from Black Jungle. Can anyone tell us what is going on?

I think your temp may be a bit too low, If that is your day temp then your night temp is probably a bit lower. Try to stay around 78 at night and 80 in the day with high humidity. What kind of substrate are you using?

Thanks for the advice. We have gravel on the bottom, then a layer of coconut bedding, then terrarium moss. We have lots of plants (live and artificial), rocks, many hide shelters, and two water bowls. We have since bought a heat mat and set it at 75 degrees and monitored the temp throughout day and night. It had been getting too cool at night and now it's about 70 at night and 72-73 during the day, which is still obviously too cool. I reckon we'll bump up the temp a little at a time and see what happens.
